Spanish Property: Information about La Marina and Guardamar

If you’re considering investing in Spanish Property, then here is some Information about La Marina and Guardamar or to give it its proper title Guardamar del Segura. Both of these towns are located in the Southern Part of the Costa Blanca.

La Marina.

Traveling South along the N332 from Alicante, La Marina is the first place we come to, so it’s logical to start this short article there. This small coastal town lies about 15 minutes south of the airport and around 20 minutes from the city of Alicante. The interesting thing about La Marina is that it is divided into two parts which are separated by a bypass. It wasn’t always this way, in fact the new piece of road which skirts around the town is about 20 years old. So the original town of La Marina is down by the coast and the urbanisation of La Marina is located a little higher up and further inland.

The urbanisation must also be between 25 and 30 years old or maybe even more and comprises of more or less every kind of residential property apart from apartment blocks. It is still possible to pick up some new build property there but since the crisis back in 2008 development has slowed up considerably. If you’re thinking of moving there you will find a very active commercial centre where you can find almost everything you’ll need.

Down on the coast the original town has become much quieter since the by pass was built and the high street is a pleasant place to take a coffee or maybe do a little shopping although I’d be lying if I said you’ll have your pick of exclusive fashion boutiques but if you’re looking for banks small shops chemists and bars and restaurants you’re in the right place and on the outskirts of town you’ll also find some of the major supermarkets. One of the major advantages the old town has over the urbanisation is its proximity to the sea. There is also a development on the Northern end of the town called El Pinet where you’ll be able to find new build and resale property which is within easy walking distance to a sandy beach and a nature reserve, now what more can you ask for.

Guardamar del Segura

Moving another few minutes along the coast road we come to Guardamar del Segura, this is also a coastal town but it is a little bigger than La Marina. On the northern end is a Marina surrounded by modern apartments. The town itself boasts a lively high street filled with shops and bars etc. Also in the centre is the town hall and the town square. Guardamar as it is known by the locals also boasts a verdant park which leads down to the town beach. In fact this area can be proud of some of the longest and most untouched stretches of beach on the Costa Blanca. On the southern end of town you’ll find the castle which was started by the Moors back in 944 and on the opposite side of the N332 the space for the Sunday market.

Also at the Southern end of town on the same side of the road as the market you’ll find an area of new development which began just before the recession and is now once more generating interest from developers and buyers alike. A little further to the South in between Gaurdamar and La Mata is another area of established development called Campoamor where you will find resale property within walking distance to Moncayo beach.

In closing it is fair to say that regardless if you prefer La Marina or Guardamar del Segura both of these towns have their charm. Both of them will offer you all of the amenities you need and both are within easy reach of long sandy beaches and the airport so they’re ideal for full time living or holidays.
